The Hope Centre

The Good Hope Kafee is a shop/small restaurant. It started selling loaves of bread at cheap prices to help alleviate the poverty in the township. Soon the idea came to make food. At present the shop sells fried fish, chips, pizza, hamburgers, toasted sandwiches, etc. During the winter months a wholesome soup is cooked and the locals can buy a cup of soup and a bread roll at an affordable price.

It is also possible to cater a more elaborate meal. A group of 30 black taxi drivers organised their annual meeting in our community centre and we catered a real South African braai for them. A local tourist organisation held a meeting in our centre and we catered a “high tea” for them.

There is also a small shop in the Good Hope Kafee showing all the products made by MAmA Zolani and Zolani Woodcraft. During season it also sells our own vegetables.

There are plans to expand The Good Hope Kafee with various items of groceries. At present the residents of the township have to travel to Ashton or Montagu to buy groceries. The Kafee presently has one permanent staff member and one temporary.

The Good Hope Kafee is open on Mondays to Fridays from 8 am to 5 pm and Saturdays from 8 am to 12 noon. You are more than welcome to drop in.
